SN74LVC1G07: -query about SN74LVC1G07DBVR

Part Number: SN74LVC1G07
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LVC1G34

Dear Team,

Could you please explain, How SN74LVC1G07DBVR-IC can be operated both  Driver/Buffer as well as open drain.

Regards,

Vairavan P

  • "Driver/buffer" means that the output is not inverting.

"Open drain" means that the output drives only the low logic level.

The SN74LVC1G07 always operates as an open-drain driver/buffer. I do not understand your question.

  • Hi clemens,

    Thank you for your reply,

Based on my understanding,Open drain outputs require a pull-up resistor  for the output to be able to properly “output high”.

If this IC can work without pull up resistor, then what is the meaning of open drain output that is mentioned in datasheet.

    Regards,

    Vairavan P

  • A pull-up resistor is indeed required if you want to have a defined high voltage.

If you have a bus (e.g., I²C) where multiple senders must be able to drive low at the same time without conflicting with other senders, then you need open-drain drivers and a pull-up resistor.

You do not need a pull-up resistor if you just want to sink current (e.g., driving the cathode of a LED, or pulling the base of a PNP transistor low).

If there is no reason to use an open-drain output, then you should use a push/pull driver such as the SN74LVC1G34 instead.
