txs0104e translates down but not up?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TXS0104E

Is there any reason why the txs0104e I am using will translate from 5V to 3.3V but not 3.3V to 5V?  I have Vcca=3.3V, Vccb=5V, OE=3.3V (pulled up from gnd after power on).  I apply 5V to B1 and A1 shows 3.3V (as expected).  I apply 3.3V to A1 and B1 shows 0V (should be 5V?).

  • Hi Tom,

The internal pull-up resistors should ensure that the sides go to their respective VCC voltages. B1 should be pulled to 5V by the internal pull-up resistors, if the part is enabled (OE HIGH) and there is 5V on VCCB.

As long as your Rload on the B side is not a very small resistance, you should see voltage.

I would first check my VCCA, VCCB and OE. Then I would  swap in another part.

Please let me know if this does not resolve the issue. I would be happy to look at your schematic.

  • Thank you for the quick response.  It was a bad chip.  I have replaced it and now everything works as it should.
