SN74AVC16245: Differences between SN74AVC8T245

Part Number: SN74AVC16245
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74AVC8T245,

Hi team,

My customer is just looking for smaller propagation delay device than SN74AVC8T245 and found SN74AVC16245.

Here is their setup condition.

A : 3.3V

B : 3.3V

Then they have some question about the differences.

1. Could you tell me why SN74AVC16245 has smaller propagation delay than SN74AVC8T245?

2. Could yo tell me why  SN74AVC8T245 can support higher frequency range than SN74AVC16245 despite SN74AVC16245 has smaller propagation delay than SN74AVC8T245.

?

  • Hello Takashi,

    1. Propagation delay or Tpd is the time it takes for a change in the input to appear on the output. As you can imagine, this would be heavily dependent on a how complicated the internal circuit is.

The SN74AVC16245 is a transceiver with a single supply. There would be fewer fets and logic inside which causes propagation delay to be smaller.

The SN74AVC8T24 is a level shifter. It has a more variety of circuit delay elements which will increase tpd.

    2. Frequency range doesn't impact propagation delay. Those are two different specifications. Output frequency is impacted by output transition time which can be impacted by your load.

    Thanks!
