SN74LVC1G123: Cext limitation

Part Number: SN74LVC1G123

Hi team,

My customer considers to use SN74LVC1G123 and provided some questions as below.

  1. He would like to generate 1sec、3sec、10sec pulses using greater than 10uF Cext.
However, figure 3~5 only shows up to 1uF.
Is there any problem for using large capacitor such as 10uF or more?
  2. Some monostable multivibrator's application note describe that diode should be added in parallel with Rext in order to discharge current to Vcc when Vcc becomes 0V. Does SN74LVC1G123 need such a protection?

I'm looking forward to hearing back from you.

Best regards,

Shota Mago

  • Hey Shota,

The diode is necessary if the power off rate is fast. This is typically not the case so it isn't as vital. I don't see any issue with them trying to get a 10 sec pulse with a larger cap. I've seen larger pulses be done as well.
