I am designing a system that will have a bunch of logic operations, mostly asynchronous combinatorial type.

In good old days, I would have had plenty of choices for putting all this stuff in a programmable logic device.

Boy, do I not have a confusing situation.

I needed the cheapest device.

But the vendor of the programming device I finally found came up with pricing far above our target because it is a low volume job.

Then I come across EPIC ticpal22v10z-25c device.

Sounds cool so far.

But absolutely nowhere do I find anything written about programming this device, nor how to get the hardware to program neither any "technical note"

Searching with any of the hey words does not yield any meaningful response in TI.

Is it obsolete or what?

I went to some vendor site......no mention of this device nor its support.

Any suggestions for low power equivalent from TI with free tools or low cost tools will be highly appreciate.

It looks like these are still available to order. They are Hirel parts a I dont have any info on them. I will alert the Hirel folks and they should reply soon.

The TIBPAL devices are very old technology and TI does not offer software or hardware tools.

Companies such as Data I/O, BP Microsystems, and eeTools still support the TIBPAL product line with hardware and software.

PALASM is still a viable choice for public domain software.

Data I/O hardware should be able to support programming of all TIBPAL devices.

So we will go with that.

Someone from TI says TIBPAL programmers are no longer available.

But we are talking abut EPIC devices, not TIBPAL, right?

So : if they are being sold, how people developing the logic, then programming them, erasing them etc?

I thought these were EPIC

If they are different & being manufactured, sold , used etc...how are people programming them?

What other alternative do I have ...the gate array stuff is overkill both functionally & price.

Robin, This is the only remaining device offered in the TICPAL line.

TI does not offer programming solutions.

Searching Dataio's website, the TICPAL devices are still supported for programming.

There may be a few other solutions out there as well.

Depending on your application, you may want to take a look at something inexpensive like the new value line MSP430s.

Some of these are reaching $0.25 in 100K quantity and have a $4.30 develpment tool.

It wouldn't have the speed of an old 22V10 but it certainly would have flexibility.
