SN74LVC1G17: Exist No protection on SN74LVC1G17 during short situation?

Part Number: SN74LVC1G17

Hi,

If the output pin of the TI IC SN74LVC1G17 is shorted to GND, I think that an excessive current will flow to the output of the IC when it outputs High. Is there any protection function on SN74LVC1G17?

If no, please advise us how to protect this situation.

Thanks and best regards,
M.HATTORI.

  • There is no built-in protection; this can damage the device. (See section 10.2.1 of the datasheet.)

If you expect such a short to happen, you have to limit the current to less than 50 mA by adding a series resistor (or a more complex current-limiting circuit at the output or in the supply).
