My customer is using SN74AVC8T245, and we are looking at what to do with the thermal pad that is under it. Normally, they get tied to ground, sometimes they are left floating. There is no mention of what to do on the data sheet.
Normally if it was to be left floating, there wouldn’t be via’s in it, but there are “optional” vias in the footprint. The footprint doesn’t show the thermal pad to be connected to GND.
I’ve looked through some of the reference designs, and the generic level translator boards have the thermal pads connected to GND, so we are not sure what to do.
