SN74LVC2G14: maximum pulse current

Part Number: SN74LVC2G14
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC27517

Hello,

We have a customer asking how to find maximum pulse current he can drive SN74LVC2G14? Vcc=5V; pulsed current time is around 100ns

He would like to drive a MOSFET gate with a frequency of 200kHz

Thank you.

  • The actual current is limited by the LVC's output impedance (about 17 Ω at 5 V) and the gate resistance. If you want to drive a capacitance larger than 70 pF from a logic device, you have to add a series resistor to limit the current output to stay below the absolute maximum rating. (which increases the switching time). To increase the drive strength, combine the outputs of multiple gates (but with 50 mA per gate, that can become unwieldy).

It is possible to use a gate driver like the UCC27517.
