Additional copper region in SN74LV1G32 footprint

Hi All,

I would like to ask a question on SN74LV1G32 footprint.

I have found several components have additional, unnecessary copper region with them in EVM6437 PCB file (DM6437 EVM by SpectrumDigital), and that of SN74LV1G32 is shown here.

What are the red regions (circled in yellow) locating within the component footprints? I checked SN74LV1G32’s data manual and found it doesn’t require additional copper thermal land (as those for PowerPAD), so I don’t see any reason why these additional copper regions are added.

Could anyone advise me of its use, or that it is actually not needed and I can safely remove them?

Thanks,

Zheng

  • Hello,

I understand that this is an old post, but we are going back to help to try to remove unanswered posts to hopefully provide beneficial information for those using the forum moving forward.
There should be no additional copper region as you have shown. This copper region is unnecessary.
Maybe it is possible they are using this to help prevent noise on the inputs from coupling to the outputs, but this is just a guess, and is probably unnecessary anyway.

    Best,
    Michael
