SN54LS74A: Questions on JM38510/30102BCA versions

Part Number: SN54LS74A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN54HCT74

Hi there, an OLDER device, SNJ54LS74J which was obsoleted and was replaced with JM38510/30102BCA (this shows up under (SN54LS74A). This new device, which is a variant of the original is having issues in the system/. I can't find any information on the SNJ54LS74J anywhere in the datasheets. Can you please let me know what's the difference? Seems like every letter in the part number was a variant in these older logic parts. Thanks.

  • Hey Kannan,

I'm not seeing SNJ54LS74 anywhere. You're definitely right that there are many variations of this device with similar naming. Could you double check to see if you got the GPN correct? Maybe you have an extra L in there or LS or the J could even be extra? Hard to guess as these will all give valid parts.

Regardless, I wouldn't expect much variation though. You may have a mV difference in the voltage threshold levels but I wouldn't expect a different variant of the same device to cause a problem. What's the application and what changes are you seeing with the new device?

    Thanks,
    Rami

  • Hello,

The "A" indicates that there was a redesign of the device, however I don't have records showing what changes were made. Since this is a TTL device, the typical performance could be significantly impacted by the design changes while still meeting the datasheet standards.

I would recommend trying to replace with SN54HCT74 (exact part # is JM38510/65352BCA). This device is designed to interface with TTL systems and provide reduced power consumption.
