Is that the USB stick? If yes, the problem is the power consumption. The current from PC USB port is limited to 500mA. On some laptop, this current is lower. Can you try a different computer?
We limited the device operation frequency on USB stick to 100MHz due to this factor. Low down the HCLK frequency should be helpful.

Dear Mr Haixiao
thanks for your immediate reply, there was a delay in the project that why i could not able to reply back. we have re-started the project. please find the attached screen shot for your reference.
we are using a USB stick. do you want us to connect this to a externally powered USB HUB so that it can draw more than 500mA current. i am also trying to low down the HCLK frequency.5482.Full page photo.pdf
Observations:
Sounds like a hardware problem since over heating of the components and unable to connect to the device. I suggest they return/replace the USB stick to TI. With the usb stick on, Do you see something like this? If not, the xds00v2 emulator on board is bad for whatever reasons.

Haixiao
Hello Haixiao
we have also ensured the USB stick device connectivity, in our system. but still we cannot connect to the USB stick and the IC's VR1, U1 and U15 are getting heated up too much. can you please give us some solution on this. or you are suspecting the hardware.

Hello Haixiao
can you give us some solution on this. if we suspect the on board hardware JTAG problem, can we connect an external XDS100 emulator to this USB stick seperately . if so where can i connect the SCIRX (pin 38) and SCI_TX(pin 39) from jtag to the TMS570LS20216 (PIN 53 AND PIN 52) -please refer TMS570LS20216_USB_STICK_SCHEMATIC.PDF.

It sounds like a 570 related hardware problem. If you have another emulator (other than the on board xds100v2), try to connect to the un-pop 12-pin connector on the back of the board. It is a 14 pin TI JTAG (removed EMU0 and EMU1). Anyway, it is our responsiblity to find out the rootcause and get back to you once we have the hardware.

Haixiao
Hello Haixiao
thanks for the feedback we will try with an external JTAG to this. apart from the 14pin in the JTAG if you see the schematics of TMS570LS20216_USB_STICK_SCHEMATIC.PDF1462.TMS570LS20216_USB_STICK_Schematic.pdf
We have SCIRX (pin 38) and SCI_TX(pin 39) from jtag to the TMS570LS20216 (PIN 53 AND PIN 52). . These lines are used for communication for the GUI interface for the feedback i believe. Do you have any information where it can be connected if we are using an external XDS100v2.

If you are using external XDS100V2, you lost the connection from SCIRX/TX to the computer. There are two channel on the on-board XDS100V2, one is used for emulation/debug purpose, another one is used for SCI->USB communication.

hello Haixiao
i have tried the same setup it is not working please see the attachement for the photos of the connection setup (photo 1 to photo4). we have got the following error, please see the screen shot11 attached4442.photo1-4.rar
as you mentioned using external XDS100V2, you lost the connection from SCIRX/TX to the computer the two channel on the on-board XDS100V2, one is used for emulation/debug purpose, another one is used for SCI->USB communication. so here no SCI-USB connection is possible??
now i cannot even load the program through CCS4.0 using the xds100v2 emulator.
please help us out

Ramkumar
I think your hardware is broken. If I were you, I would return this one to TI and ask for a replacement.

Haixiao
I am suprised why are you using the external flash tool ( now flash ) . The code composer 4 has a inbuilt debugger, flasher etc. I received the USB Kit, installed the Code composer 4 ( complete ), created a workspace, copied the Demo code "TMS570 Safety MCU Demos" included with the kit, started the make processs over Project-RebuildActiveProject, and then when the build is succesfull build, Target->DebugActiveProject.
Before you start the build process, you should create a configuraiton file !!!
To create a configuration, click on View-TargetConfiguraion->UserDefined.
Connectino = Texas Instruments XDS100v2 USB Emulator
Board or Device type = TMS570LS20206SPGE
And my board heats up to an uncomfortable level of temperature as well ( also in idle state ) ! But, I think I am lucky that it is still working.
