EK-TM4C1294XL: DHCP client timing out

Hi Team,

May we ask your help regarding the customer's inquiry below.

I am using a TM4C1294XL LaunchPad with NDK and noticed with DHCP, if I wait longer than 2 minutes and 50 secs before connecting an Ethernet cable I get a Fault 002.

Console output if I wait 3 minutes before plugging in the Ethernet cable:
ss in flash
Starting the TCP Echo example
System provider is set to SysMin. Halt the target to view any SysMin contents in ROV.
Service Status: DHCPC : Enabled : : 000
Service Status: DHCPC : Enabled : Running : 000
Service Status: DHCPC : Enabled : Fault : 002

Console output if I connect the Ethernet cable right away:

Hi,

I think the stack timeout because the PHY can't establish link.

Yes I know, but that would mean the processor would have to be reset to start DHCP again. That's not a good option when a customer is expecting to just plug in the Ethernet cable and have the system work. How do I restart DHCP without a full board reset?

I found this thread from 5 years ago that seems to deal with the problem I am having. I will see if I can use the information from it to solve my issue.

I have added the two functions for removing and restarting the DHCP client along with the statusReportHook as described in the above link and it is working perfectly to solve the issue. The only change I made was to use an Event to trigger the two functions inside an RTOS task rather than a bool.
