MSP432P401R: How to check current current consumption in MCU MSP432P401R

Part Number: MSP432P401R

Hi Support Team,

Regarding the MSP432P401R and BOOSTXL-CC3120MOD, I would like to know the following questions.

MSP432P401R as External MCU and BOOSTXL-CC3120MOD as NWP

and I measure the current in Always connected mode the avarage current consumption is around 0.12mA

I think that current only from NWP am i right??

Now how to check current current consumption in MCU(MSP432P401R)

How to measure the current consumption of the CC3120 device from the MSP432P401R LaunchPad like IMETER BOOST if possible provide some details.

Thanks

Best regards,
Yuki

  • Hello Yuki,

The MSP432P401R Launchpad supports EnergyTrace . You can access EnergyTrace within CCS and it will measure the energy the MSP432 Launchpad is using. If the CC3120 is being powered via the MSP432P4 LP, then that energy will be counted as well; however, you can setup the scenario you want, then remove the CC3120 BoosterPack to see the power consumption used by the MSP432P401R.

  • Hi Jace,

When i click debug  energy trace window opens but empty screen.

  • Hello Yuki,

After loading in a program, you click the EnergyTrace icon at the tp bar in CCS to open up that window. When that window appears, you need to start the EnergyTrrace capture via the button pointed to below to start capturing data. You can use the stopwatch icon right beside the start arrow to set for how long you want to capture data.

  • Hi Jace,

I removed J6 jumper from BOOSTXL-CC3120MOD after i click Energytrace work perfectly. Is that way is correct or not??

  • Hello Yuki,

I'm unfamiliar with the BOOSTXL-CC3120MOD HW so I can't comment. I do know that Wireless MCUs with radios can draw more power than the EnergyTrace circuit can sample on the MSP432P4 LaunchPad.
