RM48L952: Watchdog timer.

Part Number: RM48L952
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65381-Q1, TPS3430

HI,

In our design we are using the RM48L952 MCU for the SIL-3 product,

Do we need mandatory to have external WDT and Voltage supervisor to achieve the SIL-3?

Also Below are the pin used for the WDO and Voltage supervisor, Please confirm our pin allocation is fine or not.

If not please suggest us the right one.

Thanks and Regards,

Ganesh V

  • To reduce common mode failure with the MCU clocking system, the external watchdog is required for a safety critical application.

TPS65381Q1 supports Hercules TMS570 MCU and C2000 MCU families. TPS65381-Q1 integrates multiple supply rails (1.2V, 3.3V, 5V, etc) to power the MCU.

TPS65381-Q1 has monitoring and protection functions, which include watchdog with trigger and question and answer modes, MCU error-signal monitor, clock monitoring on internal oscillators, self-check on the clock monitor, a reset circuit and output pin for the MCU, and an enable drive output to disable the safing-path or external-power stages on detected faults.

When you design the power supply circuitry around the TMS570 device, please pay attention to the nPORRST setup time and hold time which is 1ms and 2us.

  • Hi Wang,

    Thanks for your reply.

Here the PIN allocation for MCU reset and WDT  is it correct ?

    Please provide your suggestion.

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Hi Ganesh,

The signal connections between RM48 and TPS3430 are correct. One suggestion:

Add a jumper between RM48 Pin 117 and TPS3430 WDO. This will be useful during SW development.

    or

Add a jumper to TPS3430 SET0 pin to pull SET0 to high to disable the watchdog during the SE development.
