LP-AM243: LP-AM243 Booster pack power sourcing

Part Number: LP-AM243

Dear TI,

I am confused by the description given on page 15 of the LP-AM243 User's Guide, as shown below.  It says that if the resistors are unmounted, "then the BoosterPack will source power to the AM243x device."  I wish to have my booster pack provide 5VDC power to the Launchpad, but draw power from VSYS_3V3.  If I unmount R161, there is clearly no way I can source 5V power.  Am I missing something here?

thanks,
Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

You are correct, if you remove R161 or R163, the corresponding power rail will NOT be supplied from the BoosterPack to power the LaunchPad.  The second line of the table in the User's Guide should read something similar to "Power to BoosterPack sourced from BoosterPack" or similar.  I will try to get this update in the next release of the User's Guide.

If you wanted to supply 3.3V from your BoosterPack to power the LaunchPad, you should instead remove R35 from the output of the 3.3V voltage generator (U10).  However, please be aware that the LaunchPad may pull up to 2A on the 3.3V rail, so your BoosterPack needs to be able to source this much current for the system to operate correctly.

Hopefully that helps answer your question.

    Thanks,
    Mike
