AM2431: EtherCAT implementation with AM2431

Part Number: AM2431
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM2432, AM2434

Hi Experts,

AM243x has the selectable features as follows:
 D: ICSS Enabled
 E: ICSS + EtherCAT HW Accelerator + CAN-FD Enabled
 F: ICSS + EtherCAT HW Accelerator + CAN-FD + Pre-integrated Stacks Enabled

AM2431 does not supports E nor F. So please let me know how to implement EtherCAT protocol with AM2431?

Thank you for your kind check.
Best regards,
Hitoshi

  • Hi Hitoshi-San,

I have assigned this thread to our industrial protocols expert. Please expect reply by end of day today.

    Regards,

    Prasad

  • Meanwhile, can you please let us know if customer requires EtherCAT Slave or Master?

  • Hi Prasad,
They need EtherCAT Slave. Thank you for asking.
    Best regards,
    Hitoshi

  • Hi Sugawara-san,

If only EtherCAT slave is required and the features of the Beckhoff stack are acceptable, AM2431 with "E" feature designator can be used.  To enable all protocol stacks, the "F' feature designator is required and is enabled only on AM2432 and AM2434 devices.  It is not enabled on AM2431.

    Regards,

    Mike

  • Hi Sugawara-san,

Sorry, but I need to change my comments.  "E" is also not enabled on AM2431 devices.  So for EtherCAT slave which is enabled by "E" or "F", AM2432 or AM2434 are required.

    Regards,

    Mike

  • Hi Mike,
Thank you so much for your clarification.
    I understood well.
Will take care of the customer.

  • Hi Mike,

may I bring this question up again? When you take a look at the product website of the AM2431, you can find the product named "XAM2431ASFGGAALX".

The naming convention in the manual says, that the AM2431 is available with EtherCAT + Pre-integrated Stacks, or did I miss something?

  • Hi Michael,

By "manual", did you mean Data Manual?  From the Data Manual...

Feature "E" enables "ICSS + EtherCAT HW Accelerator + CAN-FD Enabled".  ICSS enablement provides ICSS capabilities provided in our SDK that are unrelated to the Pre-integrated stack.  These are features like PRP will be enabled in November.  "EtherCAT.HW Accelerator" enables the EtherCAT and specifically Beckhoff stack with E. Beckhoff requires specific licensing for EtherCAT enablement.

Feature "F" enables "E" features and is the only feature designator that enables the pre-integrated stacks. It enables all features in the SDK, the Beckhoff EtherCAT stack, and the pre-integrated stacks offered by TI with Kunbus (PROFINET, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, IO-Link).  It will give the customer the choice to use Beckhoff stack or Kunbus stack for EtherCAT.

    Regards,

    Mike
