EK-TM4C123GXL: No question marks

Hi,

The "Getting Started With the Tiva TM4C123G LaunchPad Workshop" mentions that whilst writing code that question marks should appear to the left of the code if the editor can't find a #include file. However I have not seen these question marks.

page 78/336 states;

"If you were to try building this code now (please don’t), it would fail. Note the question
marks next to the include statements … CCS has no idea where those files are located …
we still need to set our build options."

If I try to open the declaration then I get an error saying the file can't be found.

Is there somewhere in Code Composer Studio that these question marks can be enabled?

Hello Nigel,

That was probably referencing an older CCS.

In the latest versions of CCS (since at least version 7) there is a yellow warning symbol to indicate functions that are called without a reference and a red circle with an 'x' to indicate an error where an identifer is not defined.

I am using CCS Version: 9.2.0.00013

Unfortunately I can't see the newer warnings either. Please see the screen shot attached.

Hello Nigel,

Well the code is correct so there is no warning for CCS to offer .

Comment out the #include for gpio.h and you should see warnings.

Hi Ralph,

It appears that the old versions of CCS checked for links to files while you entered code. This version needs the code to be built before it finds the errors.

The TM4C123G LaunchPad Workshop documentation needs updating.

Perhaps trying to learn CCS using the TM4C123G LaunchPad is slowing me down. Can you reccomend a low cost development board that has a workshop based on CCS V9 or V10?

We don't have a newer workshop for CCS V9/V10. We did release a TivaWare Getting Started Guide which you can reference that is based on CCS V9 which is also the version used for TivaWare 2.2.0.295 release: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/spmu373
