AM2732: About McASP and other audio functions

Part Number: AM2732
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6747

Hi experts,

My customer is considering the AM2732 for audio products that will be mass produced in 2023 or later.

Q1:Will the AM2732 be the most suitable successor to the TMS320C6747 (400MHz)? Please let me know if there are any other products in the AM27xx series that will be RTM'd in the future that would be optimal.

Q2:When I want to use McASP of AM2732, it is pin muxed, but there is no DataSheet for signal timing, etc. Can I actually use it?

Q3:Since there is no I/F for external memory such as EMIF, is it correct to recognize that QSPI is a place to store programs and basically run applications using only internal RAM? Is it assumed that only internal RAM is used?

Q4:I think it is difficult to evaluate Audio with TMDS273GPEVM, but is there any other EVM that can evaluate Audio?

Q5:Could you tell me if there are any precautions to be taken when migrating Audio applications from TMS320C6747 to AM2732?

Best regards,
O.H

  • Hi experts,

Sorry for rush you. Is there any update? The customer is looking for an answer, so it would be helpful if you could tell us the status. If you have difficulty answering the part about this topic, or if you can answer offline, please let us know which one.

  • Hello - Please see the responses below on your questions

Q1.  The AM2732 is a good option as a MCU + DSP device and will offer integrated security (via a HSM) and ENET support additionally if needed.

Q2. The McASP details will be included in a future revision of the datasheet, it is supported on the chip

Q3.  The QSPI is also used to access off chip Flash (SBL for boot purposes and application/program image that is downloaded into internal RAM on the AM2732).

Q4. We do plan options in the future from an evaluation tool standpoint to evaluate Audio .  If you need is urgent, please contact us offline

Q5. A couple of points to consider - architecturally the AM2732 has a large internal RAM and no DDR support.  The DSP on the AM2732 is the C66x class vs the C674x class in the TMS320C6747.  There may be other application level issues to be considered as well.

Hope this helps, please let us know if more questions

  • Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I understood. I am relieved to hear that McASP is supported. I have requested a friendship and would be happy to discuss this offline with you.
