Greetings,

I stumbled upon dynamic printf yesterday. I enabled it but saw no output. I also checked help but it was not there. I found an old thread that said the GDB debugger must be used instead of the CCS debugger. Is that still applicable? If so what are the pro's and con's of one or the other?

Also the icon in the left margin seems to be stuck with superglue. How is it removed?

Lastly, if there is one nice thing I could say about Arduino they did have a utility that allowed print statements in a script to be posted in a window in the sketch via the USB interface. Is there such a thing with CCS?

Which icon are you referring to? The little blue "breakpoint" circle icon?

There is a Terminal view in CCS that supports various transports like serial to display messages

Thanks for all the good info, ki. Perhaps it is a good time to switch to GDB though I have never used it. However at my new job it is what will be used with VS Code.

The icon I was referring to was the dynamic printf icon. Since I am using default debugger it seems it cannot be removed. So the quicker I learn how to switch to GDB the better.

John,

What is your use case where dynamic printf is desired? Do you just need the ability to print out debug messages at various points in the code without having to add the printf statements in the code itself? Are you looking for a non-intrusive way output debug messages?

Perhaps i can come up with an equivalent solution using the CCS debugger.

Hi Ki,

Sorry for late reply, long Zoom with work team.

I don't mind putting in prints that will need to be removed. I included stdio.h and tried puts, putc, and printf followed by fflush(stdout); Silent failure, no output on terminal or console. So I just set breakpoints and hover over variable of interest.
