LP-AM243: Some development environment question about the AM243x

Part Number: LP-AM243

Hi Experts,

Thanks for your help in advance!

My customer is evaluating AM243x products, and we encounter the below question:

Q1:  When we set QSPI BootMode to boot, if the chip fails to boot, is it possible to set a backup boot? and switching to backup, is it automatic or does it require us to do something extra operation?

Q2:Can the burning program support other than JTAG, such as J-link tools? Or Can customers develop simpler burning tools?

Q3:A development platform for CCS based on the LP-AM243, customer want to know that can they use ARM's development tools or Keil tools for development? For PRU part, they just use own PRU compiler.

Since customer products use ARM chips like ST and RZ, this point needs to be considered in order to plan the software platform.

Q4:I know that when burning the program to the external Flash, it takes about more than 30s, maybe more long time. Can we support a faster burning method? customer does not want the SD card mode.

  • Hi Experts,

Is there any progress? The problem has been three days!

  • Hi Shaoxing,

    Apologies for delay.

Recommendation is to create separate threads for each of the issues so they get assigned to experts and responded immediately. Can you please do this in future?

For your queries, please find my responses below -

Q1:  When we set QSPI BootMode to boot, if the chip fails to boot, is it possible to set a backup boot? and switching to backup, is it automatic or does it require us to do something extra operation?

Yes, backup boot mode can be selected via Boot Mode pins. Bits 12 to 10 are used for selecting the backup boot mode. You can choose any of supported backup modfe.

BOOTMODE[12:10] – Select the backup boot mode, that is, the peripheral/memory to boot from, if primary
    boot device failed

Refer to below sections in AM243x TRM to get more information -

4.1.2 Bootloader Modes --> shows supported backup modes

Figure 4-3. Boot Process --> shows how backup works

4.3 Boot Mode Pins --> shows boot mode configuration

Q2:Can the burning program support other than JTAG, such as J-link tools? Or Can customers develop simpler burning tools?

MCU+ SDK supports only UART and JTAG based flashing. Other tools like J-link or customer developed tools can definitely be used.

Q3:A development platform for CCS based on the LP-AM243, customer want to know that can they use ARM's development tools or Keil tools for development? For PRU part, they just use own PRU compiler.

From TI side, we support TI CLANG and CCS. GCC is supported on experimental basis.  Other tools can be used by customer at own discretion.

Q4:I know that when burning the program to the external Flash, it takes about more than 30s, maybe more long time. Can we support a faster burning method? customer does not want the SD card mode.

Let me check with SW team on this if their is any plan for the flashing optimization.

    Regards,

    Prasad
