AM2634: external or internal clock source for ethernet PHY in RMII

Part Number: AM2634

Dear Champs,

My customer will use Ethernet PHY with AM2634 in their automotive system and would like to compare between internal clock source and external clock source described in the 13.2.1.2.1 of TRM in RMII interface.

What is our recommendation for Automotive application?

Is it OK to use internal clock source for Ethernet PHY  Can you compare external clock source and internal clock source for Ethernet PHY?

Thanks and Best Regards,

SI.

  • Hi Si,

Yes, it should be fine to use internal clock generated from SOC. We can generate the 50MHz clock in SOC which can be routed to this pin. I will check with AVV team if they have validated it on AM263x but we have validated it on other SOC's using same CPSW instance.

    Regards,
