AM2634: The Expressions in the CCS Debug suffer "execution state prevented access"

Hello,

I am running some simple projects on my AM2634 controlCARD TMDSCNCD263. I find CCS Debug cannot display the values of the selected global expressions. Instead, it shows "Could not read 0x.....: execution state prevented access". This happens no matter the projects are based on freertos or nortos. Besides, this error also happens on my another Sitara board SK-AM64 (AM6442). I am using the latest version of CCS and SDK.

May I ask how to solve this problem?

Hi Jony,

The CCS expression window will not display the variable value when the core is running. It is a limitation from the XDS110 JTAG. In order to display the values of varibales in the expression window, you have to halt the core:

When R5_0_0 is running

Halt the R5_0_0

I have changed the debug probe to XDS200 by using the JTAG port on the 180-pin base board. This error still exists. Does XDS200 also not support displaying the expressions when R5_0_0 is running?

Hi Jony,

I think so. You will need to get XDS560 Trace Pro to be able to see the values of variables while the core is running.

Dear Ming,

I understand, but XDS560 is too expensive. I think maybe TI engineers should make it possible to use those more affordable debug probes to display the expression values while the core is running. This is important when debugging the project. Like on C2000, we can do this even with XDS100.

Here is a workaround using the UART of the XDS110.
