TMS570LS0714: Safety mechanism that can replace the external watchdog IC?

Hi experts,

My customer wants to know if TMS570LS0714 has such safety mechanism that can detect the internal failures and therefore the external watchdog IC can be moved.

According to my understanding, may be external WD is just an assumption-of-use (AoU) for all safety MCUs and its existence depending on the system safety design but not MCU safety mechanism? Please correct me if not right.

Hi Will,

This device have internal watchdog, If customer want he can use internal watchdog

There might be some features difference between internal and external watchdogs but the basic and primary functionality is common for both i.e. preventing microprocessor lockup is a typical application for a WDT.

Thanks for your input. Further question is how to apply for the safety documentations of TMS570, such as safety manual and FMEDA sheet.

To get the above documents, customer should have NDA with TI.

Once customer have this then QJ will share a invitation of becoming a member of e2eprivate e2e forum.

You need to accept the invitation, then logon your ti account to download the docs.
