TM4C1230H6PM: Issue when load program using EK-LM3S811

Part Number: TM4C1230H6PM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EK-LM3S811, LM3S811, EK-TM4C123GXL, EK-TM4C1294XL

Dear team:

When my customer load program using EK-LM3S811 with ICDI mode, the below error message will appear:

May I ask what problem could cause this error?

Best regards,

Green

  • Hi,

First of all, the part number you selected is TM1230H6PM while you talk about loading program on EK-LM3S811. LM3S811 is NRND. If this is a new development, please migrate to TM4C123 or TM4C129. Since you select as the part number then I suppose you have migrated to the new part. If that is the case, the customer should use EK-TM4C123GXL LaunchPad for development, not EK-LM3S811.

If you are trying to use EK-LM3S811 as an ICDI debug probe to load program onto TM1230H6PM  then I strongly suggest you use EK-TM4C123GXL or EK-TM4C1294XL LaunchPad instead. We no longer support EK-LM3S811 as it has been discontinued for many years. Please refer to section 4.6 on this app note that demonstrates how to use EK-TM4C123GXL to debug another TM4C12x chip. www.ti.com/.../spma075

  • Hi Charles:

    Thank you for your help.

Otherwise, customer want to know whether it is normal if the voltage on OSC1 is 1.3V, and the voltage on OSC0 is 0V? Is it caused by the program not being loaded into the chip?\

    Best regards,

    Green

  • Hi Green,

the voltage on OSC1 is 1.3V, and the voltage on OSC0 is 0V?

I don't really know. The best way is to compare with a reference design. What do you see on the reference design?

Also by default, TM4C123 uses the internal 16Mhz PIOS as the reference clock unless user configures the device to use the main oscillator. Without the main oscillator, the device will still function as expected.

I also strongly suggest customer to purchase a low cost debug probe such as XDS110, XDS200 or XDS100 for debugging the device instead of using EK LauchPad. I understand that using EK LaunchPad as a debug probe is a free cost method for debugging but running blue wires between the LaunchPad and the target board sometime is not reliable.
