TMS570LC4357: Use of MIBSPI1 and MII together

Part Number: TMS570LC4357
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HALCOGEN

Hello TI team,

I'm working on TMS570LC4357 microcontroller board. Application is to receive data over Ethernet and transmit the same using MIBSPI1. However, upon configuring the pinmux in HALCoGen, if shows 5 conflicts as follows:

  1. MIBSPI1SIMO[1] and MII_TDX[3]
  2. MIBSPI1NCS[1] and MII_COL
  3. MIBSPI1ENA and MII_RXD[3]
  4. MIBSPI1NCS[5] and MII_RXD[0]
  5. MIBSPI1NCS[0], MIBSPI1SOMI[1] and MII_TXD[2]

The query is, is it possible to use MII and MIBSPI1 together? If yes, then what shall be the HALCoGen configuration?

Regards,

H C Trivedi

  • Hi Trivedi,

If you use the below highlighted pins for MibSPI1 communication then you can use both MII and MibSPI1 in your application.

Note this is for GWT 337 Package

  • Hello Jagdish,

    Thanks for the prompt response.

Just wanted to check, there are multiple CS pins for MIBSPI (probably from 0 to 5) and multiple MOSI/MISO pins as well (0 to 1). Will it be okay if out of all these, you use CS4, CS5 (and leave CS0 to CS3 unused) and similarly MOSI[0], MISO[0] and leave MOSI[1], MISO[1]  unused.

    Regards,

    Trivedi

  • Hi Trivedi,

Is it okay to use CS4, CS5 (and leave CS0 to CS3 unused)?

Ans) Yes we can use only CS4 and CS5 instead of other CS lines. We just have to configure the unused CS pins in GIO mode

Once you complete above configuration, you just have to select the CS for your transfer group(TG), so that when you are sending the corresponding TG data only the selected CS line in that transfer group will be get activated.

Is it okay to use MOSI[0], MISO[0] and leave MOSI[1], MISO[1]  unused?

Ans) Yes it will be okay if you used only MOSI[0] and MISO[0], the multiple lines in MOSI and MISO are used for parallel mode communication. This parallel mode will be helpful to multiple the data rate but that is fine even if we used in normal mode instead of parallel mode. In general most of the customers prefer normal mode only. you can refer section 28.2.6.6 for more details on parallel mode.

  • Hello Jagdish,

I think this shall work. I'll finalize my schematic and get back to you in case required. Thanks for the support.
