MSP432E401Y: SYSCFG Domain Name setting confusion

Hello,

I am looking at the IP options when configuring an IP as static, one of the fields is Domain Name, the question mark button says that this must be set to the IP Address of the gateway, but I noticed that this is the exact same message as the Gateway IP Address field. Domain name comes with "demo.net" as default. Testing different strings as input does not seem to affect the ability to connect to the module or the module connecting to other servers.

Can I get perhaps examples of what to set this value to or why this setting is useful?

I think what happens is that the gateway IP address is specified as 0.0.0.0. This value 0.0.0.0 for gateway has a special meaning for "unspecified" or in another word there is no gateway in the context of a gateway. You are operating in a local area network there there is no intermediate hop. Therefore, specifying demo.net or other names do not matter.

Thank you for your quick reply, I am still finding this concept a little confusing. Are you saying if Gateway IP was not specified as 0.0.0.0, the domain name field would be a requirement?

And if so, does that mean that Domain Name must be a string that matches the IP address of the gateway?

I ask because this is implied by the message under Description for Domain Name as shown in the image:

"Used for manual/static IP configuration. If configuring a static IP, this must be set to the IP address of the gateway."

Hi,

I have done searches from e2e archives and do not come across with much details about what domain names to use (e.g. demo.net by default) when using a static address. Doing some Google searches shows this post that may be helpful. If you are working in a LAN, I don't think domain names matter.
