TMS570LC4357: Reset Diagnostic RST8 "Software Test for Reset" is not clearly defined

Hello,

The Safety Manual for TMS570LC4x Hercules ARM Safety MCUs (SPNU540A) defines Reset diagnostic RST8 "Software Test for Reset".
In section 7.136 it states "A software test for detecting basic functionality as well as errors for reset sources and reset logic can be implemented."

Can you give me a detailed description of what this test involves and how it is performed?

Hi Andrew,

RST8 is nothing but "software readback of written configuration which is performed by the application".

The "systemGetConfigValue" API will done this functionality in the code.

RST6, RST7 and RST8 are different in SPNU540A (page 82 https://www.ti.com/lit/fs/spnu540a/spnu540a.pdf?ts=1667899566658&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fproduct%252FTMS570LC4357)

It is from "SafeTI Diagnostic Library Software Safety Manual for Hercules Processors (SPNU592A)"

You can install Safe TI diagnostic library from SAFETI_DIAG_LIB Driver or library | TI.com

After installing you can find the document in below path:

"..\SafeTI Diagnostic Library\2.4.0\docs"

In another thread I was told to use SPNU540A because "SPNU592A is not accurate".

The reset source should be checked at the start of your code. For example, the CPU reset is seen (SYSESR register) if a CPU reset happens. The CPU reset is a result of the LBIST execution which is performed during startup.
