AM2434: Getting 16.2 ohm resistance between VDD_Core and VSS

Part Number: AM2434

Hi Team,

In IC XAM2434ASFGGAALV (ALV Package), I have measured resistance in between ball number A1 (VSS) and J10 (VDD_CORE) and it’s measured  value is 16.2 ohm. And in continuity mode it’s show the short connection. So please confirm that value is correct or not.

Note: We didn't soldered IC in the board. It is measured with the new IC only.

  • Hello Divyesh,

When you measure resistance, your DMM places a voltage across its probes and it measures the current that flows, this is converted to resistance, using Ohms law.

The resistance measured here is not meaningful and occurs due to the DMM applied voltage interacting with internal protection diodes. The only reason for concern would be if the resistance measured zero (or close to zero), as this would indicate a short between the power rail (VDD_CORE) and ground (VSS).

  • Hi Fleenor,

    Thank you for your response.

    Yeah, aware of it.

That means measure resistance of 16 ohm is correct right?

  • TI uses open/short-based pass/fail testing. This resistance value is not a parameter we test for; therefore, this measurement has never been taken. I will attempt a few measurements on our end and provide results once available.

  • Hello Divyesh,

We were able to make some quick measurements and found typical values from 16.0 ohms - 18.5 ohms. With these data points, your measurement of ~16 ohms sound valid. We do not recommend making any assumptions/relations from device to device based on this unrepresentative/unusable parameter.
