Hi,

I have seen that the Error/WDI (watch dog input) pin of the PMIC TPS653850 is connected to Safety_ERRORn pin of the AM263x in the TI reference design.

My question is that if PMIC is working in trigger mode of the watchdog, it needs a pulse on Error/WDI pin, so how the AM263x can produce this pulse. Is it software controlled or can be generated by the registers?

Hello Saman,

The SAFETY_ERRORn pin of the AM263x can be controlled by the Error Signaling Module (ESM). With proper configuration, this can provide an early shut down mechanism to prevent continued operation of the PMIC after specific AM263x errors occur. ESM also supports a PWM output mode where the pin toggles at a specified frequency and TOGGLE = Good or LOW = Error (instead of the default HIGH = Good or LOW = Error indication). You can find more information in the ESM chapter of the device TRM.

Hi Fleenor,

I have read the document. and I also investigated SysConfig wizard. Is there a possibility to configure ESM SAFETY_ERRORn pin into PWM mode through SDK APIs? or SysConfig wizard? or should I directly configure ESM registers?

Hello Saman,

I do not see the correct API available yet in the SDK to enable PWM mode for ESM. In this case I would suggest using the current API's + a custom inline function to directly set the ESM configuration registers.
