TMDS243GPEVM: MCU-PLUS-SDK-AM243x- Firewall Module

Hello,

In the latest release (08.05.00) of MCU-PLUS-SDK-AM243x, I can see a new module added called "Firewall".

I have the AM243x GP EVM. I intend to isolate the M4F core and use this Firewall module to restrict access to certain GPIO peripherals for the other cores.

I have a few questions regarding this since I might have missed it in the documentation:

1. Is the Firewall module supported in TMDS243GPEVM?

2. I used SysConfig to add the Firewall Module and its configuration as shown in the following screenshot. As an example, I am trying to deny MCU_GPIO0's access to R5F. Is this the correct way to do so?
After I save this config and build the code, I still see that R5 is able to access a GPIO pin in that region. Please suggest what am I missing/if I am doing something wrong?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Himel,

I have done a similar experiment on the our EVM at my desk with the below mentioned configuration. We have taken a gpio_blink example, configured the following firewall and when we tried to run the code, we ended up in the data_abort handler which basically says an illegal access to GPIO occurred.

Hi Kowshik,

I tried the same configuration as you but I can still see the LED blink.
Here is how my setup looks like:
- SysConfig: same as you (for R5FSS0-0 config)
- Demo Code examples used: gpio_led_blink_am243x-evm_r5fss0-0_nortos_ti-arm-clang and gpio_led_blink_am243x-evm_m4fss0-0_nortos_ti-arm-clang
- I first load the examples, modify the R5 SysConfig file using the SysConfig editor to include the firewall, build both the projects, load the executable onto R5_0-0 and then to M4_0-0. Then I first run the R5 using the debugger, followed by M4.

I see the following output on my console and I can see the GPIO LED pin 5 blink for both the example codes.

Maybe I am doing something different than you?

I just loaded and tried your code. Still the same issue. I can see the LED blinking.
Do you have a different version of EVM, maybe?

I see that there is a new EVM version (TMDS243EVM). Do you have that? I am currently using the following version- TMDS243GPEVM.
Could that be a reason why it is not working for me?

The reason to do this is, we have the firewalls enabled only in the HS-FS device, if your SoC is GP device the firewalls are not enabled in it. Also, can you tell us if you can connect to the M3 core using CCS or not?
