Hi Ti Expert,

I have this Lp board :- https://www.ti.com/tool/LP-AM243

I didn't understand to how to update firmware using CCS XDS110

I got error :- Error connecting to the target:
(Error -1170 @ 0x0)
Unable to access the DAP. Reset the device, and retry the operation. If error persists, confirm configuration, power-cycle the board, and/or try more reliable JTAG settings (e.g. lower TCLK).
(Emulation package 9.9.0.00040)

Hi Darshan,

Can you try the following?

1. Power on the AM243x LP via the USB-C type connector (J10)

2. Connect the J20 to your Windows PC

3. Launch CCS to access the on-board XDS110

Hi Ming,

Thanks for the response.

1) Yes, I connect J10, AM243x LP via USB -C type connector :- 5V 3A Power adepter.

2) Yes, I connected. And I can also see UART port and Auxiliary port in Device manager.

3) Yes, I tried. But I got error.

Hi Ming,

Yes, 1st plug Type C connector, then 2nd plug micro USB connector.

Also, their stick a sticker for indicating 1st type c connector and 2nd micro USB connector.

Hi Darshan,

What is your boot mode settings (SW4)?

You should use the boot from QSPi flash: off, on, off, off, off, on, off, off (SW4) with the SBL_NULL flashed into the QSPI flash:

I set dip switch as per the you mentions.

I also test Out-of-the box example but LP was not connected. Serial port connected but not other port.

Hi Ming,

1) Benchmark Demo Example is working.
2) I can read memory as per the core in UNI Flash software.

But when I update firmware from the CCS. I got error like this.

DMSC_Cortex_M3_0: File Loader: Verification failed: Values at address 0x00000000 do not match Please verify target memory and memory map.
DMSC_Cortex_M3_0: GEL: File: C:\ {project path} a data verification error occurred, file load failed.

I am confused by your statement:

The above setting is for UART boot. You cannot expect the UART boot mode can be used for CCS JTAG to connect to the AM243x R5F cores. It is used for flash the SBL_NULL into the QSPI flash. Using the python script

python uart_uniflash.py -p COM<x> --cfg=sbl_prebuilt/am243x-lp/default_sbl_null.cfg

See the following URL for detail steps:

After the SBL_NULL is flashed into the QSPI flash, you can then change to Boot from QSPI flash mode: "off, on, off, off, off, on, off, off (SW4)", then the CCS JTAG should work then, but you still need a correct Targe Configuration file (CCXML file) for AM243x LP.

By the way what target configuration file are you using?

1) UART test working
In this case dip set :- dip :- on, on, on, off, off, off, off, off (SW4) {UART}

2) Benchmark Demo Example is working.
In this case dip set :- dip :- off, on, off, off, off, on, off, off (SW4){QSPI FLASH}

3) Firmware update from CCS failed
In this case dip set :- dip :- off, on, off, off, off, on, off, off (SW4){QSPI FLASH}

What is the issue generate in CCS?

Hi Darshan,

1) First of all, I saw you can connect to R5F_0_1, R5F_1_0, R5F_1_1 and the cores are halted at 0x44. What about the RF_0_0? You should see the same 0x44 for the R5F_0_0.

2) I saw you were using the AM243x_ALV CCXML. AM243x LP has AM243x_ALX. In your Target Configuration file (CCXML file) please select the AM243x_LAUNCHPAD:

3) When you boot from the QSPI flash with the SBL_NULL flashed into the QSPI flash of the AM243x LP. You should see the following:

When I board connect with pc and open Uni flash for download .ccxml file

but download this file:- AM2434_ALX.ccxml

1) SOC initialization binary to the LP:- Done

2) UART terminal print:- Done

3) Environment variable added.

4) Target config set :- Done

5) While added JS file I got error: missing file

Hi Darshan,

Once you have flashed the SBL_NULL into the QSPI flash on AM243x LP, you can set the boot mode to boot from QSPI flash.

You do no need to run the LoadJSFile anymore. You can connect to the R5F_0_0 using CCS (installed on your PC, not the clous version) with target configuration file (CCXML).

As it shows in the screen shot, you are missing OpenSSL. There a few tools for using AM243x MCU+ SDK. Please refer to the following link for details: AM243x MCU+ SDK: Download, Install and Setup SDK and Tools (ti.com).

To run the Benchmark Demo on-line, you will need to turn off the COM port (COM15). The on-line Benchmark Demo will use the UART to communicate to the GUI Composer (the on-line GUI).

I know the Benchmark demo run from GUI composer. In the serial port printing garbage value. That's why GUI composer not showing updated value.
