AM2431: Power on/off Procedure

Part Number: AM2431

The spruj63.pdf, EVM User’s Guide, Section 3.3, describes the powerOn/Off Procedures for one EVM.

  • What is the procedure regarding power when two EVMs,one as a root complex & the other as an endpoint, are connected using a PCIe cable between the two PCIe sockets?
  • Is 12V power only applied to the root complex EVM?
  • With 3.3V supplied on both EVMs, what is the method that should be used to isolate these two supplies?
  • Is there a document that provides information on connecting two Sitara EVMs together with a male to male PCIe cable?
  • Hi Gary,

Unfortunately, we do not provide a document that shows connecting multiple Sitara EVMs together with male to male PCIe cable.

The considerations that you need to be concerned with are ensuring the following:

    1.  Each Sitara MCU needs to ensure that its own power up sequencing (from the datasheet) is followed explicitly.

    2.  Any connections between devices need to configured or gated (with buffers or similar) such that if the MCUs ramp up power at different times, you do not violate the abs max specs for the IO pins on the unpowered device that are connected between the MCUs.  The max allowable voltage on an IO pin per the datasheet is "IO Supply Voltage + 0.3V", and if the IO Supply Voltage is still 0V because it hasn't ramped, you cannot allow more than 0.3V on the pin.

Regarding the PCIe specific questions, some of our PCIe experts are notified of the thread and should be able to help answer your questions.

    Thanks,
    Mike
