Hello,

I am trying to save power on an early sample

I have ADC, I2C and CAN activated

I took back the example to switch between sleep and standby mode

From current measurement I see the device doesn't switch to standby, and from the debugger it says the target reset because there is no power/clock when it tries to go to sleep or run mode

Is there something that can prevent the device from going to sleep mode?

Is it possible to use debug to test it?

Is there an example that describes how to go to sandby and go back to run? (I haven't found it but it would be ideal)

CCS 12.0 periodicaly freezes (every 5 to 10 debug attempt), it's a side comment

I also tried to call the initialisation function out of run mode but with no success

Hi Thomas,

On the Early Sample Devices there is a bug with standby mode and the debugger, see the MSPM0_EarlySamplesFunctionalDifferences document (this can be found on the secure resources). I recommend when debugging to use the sleep mode for low power, there are also some early sample hardware bugs that cause power increases. You can apply some low power techniques but the numbers will be better on production versions of the device. I suggest reading the differences document to see the changes between versions of the device.

The device will go into the low power mode with any _WFI() or _WFE() function call, you can remove or comment this out to prevent going into a low power mode. The device will go back into a run mode when it gets woken up (usually by an interrupt). I recommend looking at the Technical Reference Manual on what is available in specific low power modes so you know which peripheral to use to wake the device back up.

I tested without WFE in while loop, it doesn't stop here despite all irq are disabled except one on a 2s timer, seems not to go to sleep

Hello Luke, I tried to use standby 1 mode in flash mode, I see that I can't go lower than 2.6mA-ish

Is it the minimum doable on early samples, or can i go lower?

In fact I tested all the modes not working in debug (standy 0 and 1 and stop 0 1 2

It seems only mode working is stop 0 - from the other ones then CAN com never restarts

In fact none of stop or standby let the program restart even if I flash from uniflash - it's said it can work in flash mode on early samples but how?

Hi Thomas,

Are you using the launchpad for these power measurements? There is a thermistor (RT1) that you will have to remove on the pre-production version of the launchpad, this is located on the left side of the board.

There is a hardware bug where this thermistor is always connected and sinking current.

Hi Thomas,

On the pre-production version the device can't connect to a programmer when it enters a low-power mode, so a reset + BSL invoke is required. A reset and BSL invoke would be required even if you use uniflash. See Recovery Action 2/3 in the MSPM0 SDK Known Issues and FAQs document.

For the low-power modes, I believe something in your application code is causing the device to not enter the low power mode, an interrupt for example. I would test our example code "sysctl_power_policy_sleep_to_stop" and "sysctl_power_policy_sleep_to_standby".
