MSPM0L1306: I2C to UART converter

Part Number: MSPM0L1306
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR6972,

Hi Team,

My customer is interested with this application. Could you please provide the source code or firmware of this application?

He's using MSP430FR6972, he need 6 channels UART, but the maximum channel number of MSP430 is 4. So he wants to using a interface converter device to achieve this goal. But TI have no suitable interface device for his application. So I recommended M0 device for this goal.

  • Hi Yale,

Let me make sure I understand what the customer is looking for... they want to use MSP430FR6972 as the main application MCU, correct?

To support the customer's 6 UARTs, (2) of the MSP430FR6972 UARTs can be used as UARTs.  To achieve 4 more UARTS, you are suggesting using (2) MSPM0L1306 devices which would be used as I2C to UART bridge devices, correct?

I checked with our SW team to see if we have such firmware and we don't.  They are working on a UART to I2C bridge driver for MSPM0, but it is not ready yet, and won't work for this customer's application because it is not "I2C to UART". There is also an MSP430 UART to I2C bridge, slaa960, and for same reason won't work for this customer.

Is the customer up to the task of creating their own?
