TMS570LS1227: compatibility with the TMS570LS1114

Due to part availability I need see if I can port my software written for the TMS570LS1227 to the TMS570LS1114. FLASH and RAM sizes are fine. Endian convention is the same. I just need to confirm that this should be a fairly straightforward port instead of a major rewrite.

If they are not compatible can you refer me to a part that I could port the TMS570LS1227 software to without a major rewrite?

Hi Rick,

Yes, the TMS570LS114CZWT is pin compatible with the TMS570LS1227CZWT. TheTMS570LS1114 is a subset of the TMS570LS1227 and software written for the TMS570LS114 will run correctly on a TMS570LS1227.

Let me add one caution. The terminals B16, B15, B9 and B8 are no connects on the TMS570LS114CZWT but are output pins on the TMS570LS1227CZWT. If your circuit board has traces running through these terminals, there would be an issue using the TMS570LS1227. In that case a TMS570LS1224 would be the proper replacement.

And also if needed you can try RM46 as well:
RM46L852ZWT and TMS570LS1227ZWT are pin to pin compatible.
TMS570LS1227ZWT doesn't supports USB, and RM46Lx doesn't Flexray.

Hello Jagadish,

Sorry for my late reply. I have one more question as we are still having difficulty getting any of the TMS series processors.

Another TI rep mentioned that we could use the RM48L540 in place on the TMS570LS1227. Right off the start I noticed that the RM48 uses little endian memory convention compared to the 570 using big endian.

Is the RM48L540 a viable alternative? And does the RM46LM852 also use little endian? From past experience, the memory convention differences often cause a lot of software re-write which I obviously would prefer not to do.

Thank you for your help. The supply chain issues are still a big problem.

Hi Rick,

As RM48 is not available in BGA package, i would suggest RM46L852 as a viable alternative for TMS570LS1227.

Now coming to the endian difference, yes these two devices have different endianness. TMS570LS1227 is big endian device where as RM46 is a little endian device, but this difference won't affect in driver point of view.

I mean the drivers header files are designed in such way that, they compatible for both big endian and little endian devices.
