TMS570LC4357: Example code to start and stop the HET timer of TMS 570LC4357

Can you please look at the below PWM generation example using HET in HALCoGen Help section?

You can use HET pin as GPIO, using HET registers only. 

But the important thing is, if you are using HET pin for PWM generation or Capturing purpose then you can't use it for other functionalities like GPIO's right? 

If the pin is ideal then you can use just like GPIO. To understand how to use HET pin as GPIO, please verify below FAQ.
