MSP432E401Y: Need higher sample rate MCU with ADS8910B

Part Number: MSP432E401Y
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8910B, TMS570LC4357

Hi team,

I got a customer asking for a part upgrade from the MSP432E401Y, see below.

"For MSP432E401Y, We are using the ADS8910B with MSP432E401Y for sampling the analog signal. The 8910 can do 1MSPS but the best we can do is 500KSPS with MSP432. We would like to increase the sampling rate by replacing the MSP432 with another higher clock rate microcontroller. The buffer size is expected to be higher with higher sampling rate so 512kb or more ram size will be required.  Do you have any recommendations on this?"

Let me know your thoughts, thanks in advance!

Marco

  • Hi Marco,

Can you clarify what is the bottleneck in MSP432E preventing from achieving 1MSPS. According to ADS8910B datasheet, with the Enhanced-SPI mode, the SPICLK of 20Mhz is enough to achieve 1MSPS. MSP432E can support up to 60Mhz of SPICLK. If you can elaborate where actually the bottleneck is then we may be able to resolve the throughput issue. MSP432E only supports 256kB of SRAM. For larger memory footprint, you will need to consider another MCU like TMS570LC4357 which has 512kB of SRAM.

  • Hi Marco,

I have not heard back from you. I will close the thread for now. If you have any update, you can write to this post and the post will change its status to OPEN.
