LP-MSPM0L1306: Firmware update failed, board lost connection to PC (Unable to retry FW update)

Part Number: LP-MSPM0L1306
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

Hi TI Support Team,

I am currently using the LP-MSPM0L1306 board for our product development. When I attempted to flash the software onto the board using Code Composer Studio (v12.5.0.00007), a window popped up asking me to do the firmware update. I clicked, the firmware update instantly failed, and I couldn't get the board to communicate with my PC ever since. (The VCOM port no longer detectable in the Windows Device Manager.)
If I force flash, CCS gives me the following error message:

Is there any way I can restore communication so that I can redo the firmware update and proceed with the software flashing?
Thank you,
Kyungjae Lee
  • You can play with this tool first. If it can't work to program the XDS110 through USB. I think you need to reprogram the XDS110 on board. Do you have another XDS110?

  • Thank you Eason,

I have tried to connect the XDS110 through USB but doesn't seem to work. (Please see the snapshot attached.) However, I do have another LP-MSPM0L1306 board at hand. Is there a way to reprogram the dead board using another one that is working?

  • Yes, you just program the bin files into the broken XDS110 through JTAG. For the connection, please refer to the LP user guide

  • Thanks again! I was able to find the information about the connection between the two XDS110 probe using the standard JTAG 10-pin cable. Could you please guide me through the reprogramming steps? Or if there is a documentation on it, where can find it?

  • You just use Unilfash to download the bin files into MSP432. The flow is same like programming a MSPM0.

  • Eason, I am new to TI's product and am having a hard time understanding the big picture regarding what needs to be done to resolve this issue, based on the information you have provided.

Could you please provide more specific details on the following:

    • How should the dead board be connected? (Should it be connected to the PC through a USB cable or to the working board through a JTAG 10-pin cable?)

    • Which bin file do I need to download into the dead board using the UniFlash tool, and where can I find it?

I've spent a considerable amount of time searching TI's forum and Google to understand and apply your instructions. I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide a more detailed description of the process so that we can resolve this efficiently in one go.

  • Here is the pin you need to connect. SWD is enough. You can refer to the schematic in the LP user's guide.

You need to download both with this uniflash setting.

Please do some try. The LP will not get bader.
