AM2434: Some questions about TSN

Part Number: AM2434

1. What standards have SDK 9.01 implemented for TSN?Are all of the following standards supported?

  • Standard ethernet (IEEE 802.1)
  • Timing and Synchronization for Time-Sensitive Applications - gPTP (IEEE 802.1AS-2020)
  • Forwarding and Queuing Enhancements for Time-Sensitive Streams (IEEE 802.1Qav)
  • Enhancements for Scheduled Traffic (IEEE 802.1Qbv)
  • Frame Preemption (IEEE 802.1Qbu

2. When can ECAT over TSN be implemented on AM2434?

  • Forwarding and Queuing Enhancements for Time-Sensitive Streams (IEEE 802.1Qav)

This is supported by CPSW peripheral and the demonstration for the same can be found here: AM243x MCU+ SDK: Enet CPSW EST Example (ti.com)

  • This is supported by CPSW peripheral and the demonstration for the same can be found here: AM243x MCU+ SDK: Enet CPSW EST Example (ti.com)

This demo is about Enhancements for Scheduled Traffic (IEEE 802.1Qbv).

Forwarding and Queuing Enhancements for Time-Sensitive Streams (IEEE 802.1Qav) andFrame Preemption (IEEE 802.1Qbu)  has not been implemented yet,is my understanding correct?

  • Hi Cheng,

Please note that frame premption is supported in CPSW hardware but we do not have an example to demonstrate it yet. Could you please let me know how are you planning to use it.

  • Forwarding and Queuing Enhancements for Time-Sensitive Streams (IEEE 802.1Qav)

We have plans for this in future, but I am really curious to know your use case here. The proposed time line would be SDK 10.0

  • Please note that frame premption is supported in CPSW hardware but we do not have an example to demonstrate it yet. Could you please let me know how are you planning to use it.

I want to use AM2434 EVM board to implement some protocols over TSN such EtherNet/IP ,OPC-UA,  etc in the future.

I hope TI can combine these TSN standards to release a demo.

  • Hi Cheng,

We will take your feedback and plan to demonstrate something in future. Thanks for your feedback. Please feel free to create a new ticket in case you have any other query
