LP-MSPM0G3507: bsl_host_mcu_spi example error when flashing with CCS Theia

Part Number: LP-MSPM0G3507
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSPM0G3507

Hello,

My project requires the use of SPI to program the MSPM0G3507 MCU.

To achieve this I have tried to run both the bsl_spi_flash_interface and bsl_host_mcu_spi examples from the SDK.

However when I run either example program by running the debugger in CCS Theia I get the following Debug Output (this is specifically from bsl_host_mcu_spi):

Flash Programmer: Error in image size. Length of block is 4012, but it should be divisible by 8 since Flash Programmer writes in 64-bits
Flash Programmer: Error in image size. Length of block is 611, but it should be divisible by 8 since Flash Programmer writes in 64-bits
Flash Programmer: Error in image size. Length of block is 60, but it should be divisible by 8 since Flash Programmer writes in 64-bits

Failed to remove the debug state from the target before disconnecting. There may still be breakpoint op-codes embedded in program memory. It is recommended that you reset the emulator before you connect and reload your program before you continue debugging

All project settings have been left default.

Is there a required configuration option I am missing?

Thanks,

Alex

  • Hi Alex,

Can you try setting the --memwidth and --romwidth options to 8 in the project settings?

To do this right click on your project and go to properties, then expand Arm Hex Utility, and update these under General Options.

I would expect these to be set by default on examples where we have the arm hex utility enabled by default, but it may have been missed on these examples.

    Best Regards,
    Brandon Fisher

  • Hi Brandon,

    Thanks for the suggestion.

It looks like the Arm Hex Utility was disabled in the bsl_host_mcu_spi example by default, and enabling it with mem and rom width 8 and rebuilding seems not to have fixed the problem.

  • Hi Alex,

What version of CCS Theia and the MSPM0 SDK are you using?

Have you made any changes to your MSPM0G3507.cmd file?

    Best Regards,
    Brandon Fisher

  • My SDK version is 1.20.01.06 and CCS Theia 1.1.0 (1.1.0.91)

The examples were imported and left unmodified apart from enabling the ARM Hex Utility as you had suggested.

  • Hi Alex,

It looks like the bsl_host_mcu_spi project is not properly importing the linker and startup files.

Please add the linker and startup files I've attached to this post to the project and try to build again.

    Best Regards,
    Brandon Fisher

    /cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/908/8308.mspm0g3507.cmd

    /cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/908/startup_5F00_mspm0g3507_5F00_ticlang.c

  • That looks to have solved the problem, thanks!
I was importing the examples via '''file->create_new_project", importing the examples from the Resource Explorer seems to correctly import the linker and startup files.

  • Hi Alex,

This is a problem within the example itself. The import process reads the .projectspec file associated with the example to know what files to import/reference.

This example has an error in that file. I've filed a ticket internally to get it corrected, but for now adding those files to your project manually will get you the same results as if Theia had imported them correctly.

    Best Regards,
    Brandon Fisher
