AM2434: How many instance can be added in EtherNet/IP stack

2. If you can provide the sample code that you used to replicate the issue, it will save us the over head in reproduction of issue?

I will meanwhile try to get the details on max no of instance.

One observation is that this needs to be limited as addition of new instance will need memory and thus needs to be regulated based on a certain accommodatable range.

As you say, the reason of this problem is memory space or the limitation of EtherNet/IP stack.

We can add at max 255 instance as of today.

What kind of specification are you looking at. Also can you let me know the justification for this feature, based on that we can take it in our CCB. We have not seen this request commonly. We will also need to evaluate the effort for this feature once we have some information from you.

Max 255 instance is not enough for us.

We have 500 parameter which need add at EtherNet/IP adapter as instance.

We need specification of Kunbus stack about Class / Instance /  Attribute.

- Max Class number / min Class id / max Class id

- Max Instance number / min Instance id / max Instance id

- Max Attribute number / min Attribute id / max Attribute id

-----------------------

Most of EtherNet/IP device's parameter can be accessed through EtherNet/IP adapter.

500 parameter is not a large number for EtherNet/IP device.

Please help us to solve this issue.

I just change EI_API_CIP_OBD_MAX to 512, and rebuild example project.

However, this configuration doesn't work.

I get 0x38020104 (EI_API_CIP_eERR_DICTIONARY_FULL) from EI_API_CIP_createClass function.

Does any variable which I can get the number of instance I add now?

I also try comment the definition of EI_API_CIP_OBD_MAX, but the project still can build successfully.

It seems that  EI_API_CIP_OBD_MAX is not used in project.

It looks like stack needs to be rebuilt for the changes to take effect. We are discussing internally how to enable this. Will comeback by end of the week

Hi Joshua,

The internal memory is limited to 2MB on the AM243x. In case the memory usage reaches this limit, the use of DDR memory may be required.

The stack memory usage can be found under the “General Stack Parameters” section in the EthernetIP Datasheet.

Hi Joshua,

For the statically allocated memory, you can refer to the Linker Command File.

In order to monitor the Heap memory and get other runtime details, you can use the Real-time Object View (ROV) tool in CCS IDE. I have the same question according to limits of object dictionary. I see that 9.2 is released, but can you please clarify which function one would use to set the limits of object dictionary from code without the define `EI_API_CIP_OBD_MAX`. I would expect that there is a function or similar but can't find one in API description https://software-dl.ti.com/processor-industrial-sw/esd/ind_comms_sdk/am243x/09_02_00_08/docs/am243x/ethernetip_adapter/modules.html.

Is this not required as everything is heap allocated?
