What is the purpose of TI putting a VSSA on MCU? let's say AM26X or the latest for real-time control. as long as I know that the best PCB layout for GND is to have a solid GND plane. Also, the PCB Layout guide for EMC from TI said that we better have a solid GND plane. I saw some of the guidelines for TMS320F28335 still recommend splitting the GND, well which one should I follow?

Hi Wisnu Kusuma,

We recommend "shorting Both analog and digital ground return pins" as per the Section 12.1 of AM263x and AM263Px Hardware Design Guidelines (Rev. B). Please follow the recommendations as mentioned in the Section 12.1 of that document.

ok! I got it. But why do you still have VSSA on your MCU pin name, I mean what is the purpose of it? It indicates that VSSA is analog GND and VSS is digital GND that we have to separate.

Hi Wisnu Kusuma,

It is because of having the provision and keeping the option open vs not having it at all. As mentioned earlier, we recommend shorting it on board, but from the package side, we keep the option if needed for any testing, measurement or any other purposes.
