AM2634-Q1: Query on the AM2634 Power Estimation Tool Spreadsheet

Part Number: AM2634-Q1

Hi All,

We got the below link to perform the power estimation of Sitara board.

SPRR464 Design tool | TI.com

Needed a clarification on the 'Utilization' column to be filled in the spreadsheet : What is the idea of the Utilization column? Ex: ADC. If there are 5 ADC peripherals (each having 6 channels), what would be the understanding of utilization?

  1. 2/5 ADC peripherals are being used => Utilization = 40%?
  2. 15/30 ADC channels are being used => Utilization = 50%?
  3. Amount of time within a fixed time frame where the configured ADC channel is utilized?
  4. Measurement of the CPU utilization of each of the ADC channels?

It would be helpful if you could provide us with an example so that we could use the same for all the other peripherals to use the template spreadsheet effectively.

Also, it would be good if you could explain how to interpret the Power Report after updating the Interfaces and Processing Elements sections.

  • Hi Ashish,

    1. Utilization column for ADC refers to amount of time within a fixed time frame where the configured ADC channel is utilized. Same thing applies to the other peripherals, it is the timeframe for which the corresponding peripheral is used within a fixed duration.
    2. The default values present in the spreadsheet is one example of a possible use-case, you could use these values as a reference.
    3. The Power report provides the rail-wise power/current consumption (for the 1.2V Core Supply VDD, 1.2V Memory array supply VDDAR, 3.3V Analog VDDA and 3.3V IO supply VDDI033) as explained in the application note AM263x Power Estimation Tool.

    Hope this answers your questions.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Sahana
