Good day Support

Previously we were asking about flash access here

We have updated SDK to 09.01.00.41 and tried to configure 4-byte addressing in SysConfig with some obvious values ( Addressing Mode 0x01/0x02, Supported sequence 0x20/0x21 )

The specified flash memory is marked as 'validated' in TI https://www.ti.comb/lit/an/sprad50a/sprad50a.pdf so I assume it should work out of the box.

Are there any documents that describe 4-byte addressing setup because I did not find any related example in SDK ?

Can you provide Addressing Mode / Supported sequence values for this particular case ?

Hello Volodymyr,

Errata item i2364 outlines why this is not possible on the device. "Address lines going out from SoC interconnect to QSPI controller are 23. Hence this limits the usage of QSPI flash memory to 8MB per chip select in memmap mode."

We will need to update the flash selection guide to mention this detail. The flash had been validated from a comms standpoint that the specs for the flash meet requirements for our QSPI interface but either we need to highlight a lower memory density or make it clear the flash is limited 8MB size if selected.

Hello Volodymyr,

Okay so added detail here - the reason we continue to recommend this particular Flash is because the errata item impacts memory mapped mode only so if you are using it in regular configuration mode then you should be able to read above 8MB.

That is why we have the statements for Serial Flash Interface mode in the selection guide.

The documentation around this likely needs some improvement however, I don't think that's clear enough as presented today.

I get what you are talking about silicon related issue with bus width which affects memory mapped access.

Since the initial discussion and the mention that SDK 9.01 can resolve this issue I was hoping that new SDK will allow us to use Flash Driver out of the box but after a quick look I see that it will not and we still require to patch Flash Driver. Please confirm that.

I see that some additional options added to SysConfig - 4-byte addressing mode and sequence

but I don't see ( or did not find ) how all this processed in driver layer. I found the place but not all sequences are implemented

Also for example, for 4-byte addressing with dedicated instruction set support SysConfig description propose to use 0x20 addressing enable mask but in the code addressing enable mask for dedicated mode is described as 0x10.

So please confirm that more changes and improvements are expected in this direction ( Flash Driver )

If I understand you correctly I need to use QSPI_spiConfigRead API instead of QSPI_spiMemMapRead - is it correct ?

Hi Volodymyr Svystelnikov,

I think I confused myself. In a memory map mode, there is a limitation i.e. 8MB are only accessible via hardware. But with config mode, you can still access the flash for complete 2^32 bytes.

MCU_PLUS_SDK does not support the config mode till 10.00.
