MSPM0G3507: MCAN RX/TX after breakpoint

In the MCAN examples for this board all the READMES have the following note

Note: There is a known limitation where the example might stop transmitting/receiving
packages if the application halts execution after hitting a breakpoint. It is
highly recommended to use the free run option while testing the example.
Is there any workaround or planned fix for this? We need CAN to function properly when debugging.
