MSPM0L1306: Running ADC above CPUCLK freq

Part Number: MSPM0L1306

Tool/software:

Hello,

Is it possible to configure the ADC to run at a faster clock speed than the CPU? Say 32 MHz while the CPU clock is at 4 MHz as an example?

At a glance this didn't seem possible from the clock tree, but just wanted to confirm.

  • Hi Munan,

From what I can tell, it may be possible to run the CPUCLK at 4MHz from SYSOSC and the ADC from the external HFCLK at 32MHz.  This would require an external or clock source.

  • Hey Dennis,

MSPM0L1306 doesn’t have an external clock though right? So this would need to be one of the newer M0’s with extclkin? Or is there a new trick I haven’t heard about yet.

  • Hi Munan,

Sorry for the delay.  You are correct.  I forgot the MSPM0L TRM was updated to include the MSPM0Lx22x family.  For the MSPM0L1306 I had to go back to earlier publication for a clock tree diagram.  Based on this the only clock source is SYSOSC for the ADC and is also the clock for CPU (MCLK).

There is a divider, but only applies when SYSOSC is operating at 4MHz, but your customer wants 32MHz for ADC operation.
