AM263P4-Q1: Difference Between AM2434 R5F and AM263P4-Q1 R5F Core Frequencies

Part Number: AM263P4-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM2434,

Tool/software:

When I examined the AM2434 and AM263P4-Q1 MCUs, I found that most of their features are similar, but there is a twofold difference in the frequencies of the R5F cores.

  1. What is the main reason for this frequency difference?
  2. Can the AM2434 R5F cores individually provide 800MHz?
  3. Why are the frequencies of the AM263P4-Q1 R5F cores not 800MHz, and what are the advantages and disadvantages?
  • Theoretically 800Mhz frequency is possible for AM2434 R5F cores. However, in practice it may not be feasible due to environmental factors, power consumption, and thermal constraints.

  • Although the two devices are very similar, they are on different process nodes. And as you mentioned, each R5F core on AM243x runs at 800MHz while AM263Px devices run at 400MHz.

That means exactly what you would think. Double the speed on AM243x.

AM263Px does have some key new features such as OptiFlash, OSPI, etc.

Many similar concepts across the two device families and some key differences. It all depends on you application which device would be the best fit.
