AM2634-Q1: CAN Communication Support

Part Number: AM2634-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM2634, SN65HVD230, SYSCONFIG

Tool/software:

Dear Team,

I am working on CAN communication between 2 controllers (STM32 and AM2634) when i configure CAN on STM32 i am getting all these parameters to set

On AM2634 i am getting global parameters for all the instance

I am not able to communicate between both the controllers can anyone guide me regarding this

  • Hello Swati,

Do you have CAN transceivers on both sides of this communication? And if so, which ones are being used?

    Best Regards,

    Ralph Jacobi

  • Hello Ralph Jacobi

Yes I have CAN Transceivers on both sides on AM2634 I am using In-Built Module TCAN1042 and on STM32 Side i am using  SN65HVD230

  • Hello Swati,

    A few observations then...

    1) SN65HVD230 doesn't indicate CAN FD support. I will need to confirm this and have a query out, but if so you are selecting CAN FD mode with a transceiver that can't support it.

Edit: Confirmed SN65HVD230 is not spec'd to support CAN FD high data rates, but in theory it could support 500kbps / 1Mbps. It's not designed for CAN FD though.

    2) I don't know anything about the STM configuration process but for Texas Instruments "External Loopback" just means the signals are present on the I/O for measurement but it does not enable communication between devices.

    3) You will want to adjust the SysConfig values to get the bitrates to align. For example:

  • Hello Ralph Jacobi,

I try to test the CAN as you suggested but still it's not working.

And i thing i observe the AM2634 start transmission it get stuck on transmission(getting stuck in ISR function to get the value of transmission object)

  • Hello Swati,

Do you have any ability to capture the bus traffic on the CAN lines? Hard to guess what might be occurring with that description but seeing the CAN bus should help make it clear which side of the transmission is having an issue.

    Best Regards,

    Ralph Jacobi

  • Hi Ralph,

    Sorry for late reply,

I am waiting for my CANFD Transreceiver for this
