I believe my sysconfig is configured correctly for UART1.  So with the USB-to-Serial cable TTL-232R-3V3, do I just connect its TX to pin PA18(RX), RX to pin PA17(TX), and Gnd-Gnd?  Do you have a picture of your UART1 connections? Thanks!

No, because I created a daughter board to connect all my hardware.

But yes, hook up the USB to serial connector that way and you are good to go.

It is really not that hard.

A scope is helpful to make sure you are outputting what you think you are outputting.
