RM48Lx40 vs. F28M35Hx

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28035

We have been using the TMS320F28035 for a (10 KHz field oriented control) motor application. Now we need to enhance the product to support EtherCAT (Ethernet for Control Automation Technology) communication via Ethernet. Looks like the RM48Lx40 family or the F28M35x family would be good candidates for the processor. Which processor family would be better?

Sorry for the delay in answering. The RM48x and F28M35x do not have the hardware required to implement the EtherCAT protocol. This is currently being discussed for future microcontrollers on the roadmap.

Please check out the Sitara processors: Sitara™ ARM; Cortex™-A8 and ARM9®

These processors currently support EtherCAT in hardware.

I do not yet know much about EtherCAT, other than it uses Ethernet for communication. Since the RM48x and F28M35x each have Ethernet hardware, what is lacking that prevents them from being used for the EtherCAT protocol?
